Thanks very much for your comment, Laura. The occasional pat on the back definitely helps motivate me to find room for a blog post during a busy week. Much appreciated!

I like your blog and especially this post. I'm a transitioning work-from-home mom and I'm trying hard to have less fast food and more slow food in our lives. Cheap, fast food seems to be a money saver at first, but ends up costing us a lot (health-wise) in the end. I'm subscribing to your email alerts and am looking forward to more informative posts!

Wonderful post. Healthy living and good food is something to stand up for. Each movement towards healthy eating makes me happy. @James ... sad face.

Well said, anonymous guy.

The post was a bit tongue-in-cheek. Yeah, I've done the Dilbert job in the past. I know many people are too busy to take a leisurely lunch, let alone make it themselves. Many people also work for horrible companies and/or bosses. But can't a guy dream? I have a dream. I dream of a future in which we'll have more of a European work-life-food balance here in North America. And don't get me started on how pitifully inadequate 2 weeks vacation per year is...

@James: You must've traveled through some inter-dimensional rift because this isn't a fascist post-WW2 world in the wake of a Nazi victory. If you're going to get fired over a lunch break, well, then your life truly sucks.

With that aside, I cannot agree more with this article. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind and any company that cannot respect that can go shove off.

<blockquote cite="Arch a brow, snort derisively, and just walk away.">

And get fired. Seriously, do you think this is Europe or something? Nobody in management gives a shit about your lunch, they just want you to be more productive and almost none of them recognize a well-fed happy employee as more productive, though research bears this out. Oh, and good luck proving you were let go because you had the temerity to actually take a lunch break.

i wonder what borlaug said about the idea (fact?) that today the problem of starvation has less to do with inadequate production and more with inadequate distribution, produced, in part, by using starvation as a political tool (as is done quite a bit in africa, if i understand correctly)

I totally agree with this article. The problem I have is, the last time I was in this store, I browsed the magazine section and was surprised to find an Adbuster's magazine in there. How does this type of stuff happen?

Thanks for your post. It definitely is strange to watch the fight from the outside (Canada). America should, like Europe, Canada, Japan, Australia, etc., have some form of universal public health care. That's obvious to anyone who has actually experienced universal public health care. It's sad to see partisanship get to the point where many Republicans will shoot themselves in the foot just to spite the Democrats.
